Mothering Sunday

Dear Friends,

The Church celebrates Mothering Sunday on the 14th Match – the day when we thank God for our Mother’s and the love that they have shown to us over many years. It is right that we thank God for them and for the influence they have had on our lives. We might show our gratitude by giving them flowers, or a gift and a card – and so we say Thank You to our Mothers.

Mothers feed and nurture their children – they help to provide a stable background in this ever changing world – providing help when needed or maybe a listening ear – a shoulder to cry on or to encourage and comfort when things are not going well and to praise when things go well.

A Mothers love goes a long way in the provision of the home being a place of warmth and security for the family. The family is so important as the basic unit of our society; and within that family are people of all ages, from the tiniest babe in arms to those who are well past their sell by date – and all are important and valued and have their role to play within the family.

The Church is very like a mother with her family – she feeds and nurtures through teaching and Holy Communion – feeding us with the Body and Blood of Christ. She celebrates when things are going well and is there for us in time of trouble or anxiety.  Within the family of the church all are important and valued, from the tiniest babe in arms to those (the Vicar) who are past their sell by date.

In the last magazine it was reported about the new family service. It is hoped that the new Service Books will be ready for us to use on Mothering Sunday. Within the Service there will be something for all the family – from our traditional hymns to much more modern music – we will continue to use the organ as well as other instruments – the Organisations will play a more prominent part in the service – acting as Welcomers,  Reading the lessons – being involved in the music of the worship – doing a talk, a play or a presentation in the sermon slot. The new Service Book will be child friendly and much easier to use and follow and will be in colour.

Our Speaker at the 11.00 am Family service on Mothering Sunday will be Mrs Cynthia Taylor who brings tremendous experience of work that is concerned with family life; through her membership of the Mother’s Union.

As we celebrate Mothering Sunday so we say Thank You to our Mothers and to our Mother Church and we pray that all will feel that they belong and are valued within the fellowship here at St. Peter’s.

All good wishes.

Stephen
