Intercessions 15th Aug 2010 Watchful at all times, let us pray for strength to stand with confidence before our Maker and Redeemer. Compassionate God, source of all comfort, we pray for the people of Pakistan whose lives have been devastated by rain and flood. For the estimated 20 million people who have been affected by the country's floods. We also join China on this day of national mourning following the mudslides in the northwest of the country which has left 1,156 people confirmed dead and over 500 missing. Bring them comfort, we pray. Protect the vulnerable. Strengthen the weak. Keep at bay the ravages of disease.
Have mercy on all those working to rescue the stranded and to feed the hungry. And may our response to their suffering be generous and bring you praise.
Lord in your mercy…hear our prayer
We remember VJ day, the anniversary of Victory in Japan during the second world war. By 15 August 1945, the date Japan formally surrendered, 90,332 Britons had been killed, taken prisoner, wounded or were classified "missing, presumed dead".
100,000 British troops fought in the Burma Campaign between 1941 and 1945 and more than three million Japanese died.
As we remember those involved in this conflict, let us bring to God the sins and shortcomings of the world; its pride, its selfishness, its greed; its evil divisions and hatreds.
Let us confess our share in what is wrong, and our failure to seek and establish that peace which God wills for his children. Lord in your mercy…hear our prayer We pray for those receiving exam results and considering their options. Heavenly Father, we thank you that you love them whatever qualifications they hold, or whatever path they take. |
