A Prayer Page The Mustard Seeds Bible Study Women's Guild Men's Fellowship Listeners

The Womens' Guild meet on Tuesday nights in the meeting room at 7.30p.m.

We have started this year with some very interesting speakers, some old friends we have listened to before and some new friends.

We opened on the 18th January with communion and on the 25th we celebrated Annie Holroyd’s 80th birthday with a lovely buffet.

During February we welcomed Linda Mellor, Mr. Wogan, Pat Millward from the carers centre and our own Christine entertained us with her verses and poems.

On the 1st March Cliff Jones talked to us about his travels in Nairobi and showed us some beautiful slides of the wild animals, many in danger of extinction because of hunters.

On the 8th March we once again enjoyed ‘the vicar’s hot pot’.

On the 18th March we had a visit from Graham Stirrup who gave us an  insight into what it must have been like for the pit brow lasses with a very interesting talk accompanied by slides.

Graham donated his fee to our Bring and Buy which we held on the 22nd March to raise funds for the North Manchester Hospital ward where Sheila had been looked after during her recent illness.  We managed to raise over £150 which included a few more donations and a raffle, and Sheila was able to take much needed electric fans to the ward which were gratefully received.  So thank you to everyone.

On the 29th March  we had a meal at the Smithills Coaching House and as always we had good food with a nice relaxing atmosphere.

We met Rev. Beahan , the new vicar at All Saints, on the 5th April, who came to talk to us about his life and the paths that led him to Hindley.

On the 12th April  Joyce De Costa brought us some sample dishes of the curries she makes and the spices and recipes she uses.  It was a very tasty evening if you were willing to try

We closed for Easter with Communion on the 19th April.

We started back on the 3rd May with a very interesting talk from Helen Pye about all the blessings she has received from her four years since the opening of  Pye Studios.

We have a variety of speakers booked for the next few weeks until our closing social on the 14th June.

Our day trip is on July 19th  when we go to the Lake District stopping for lunch then a sail on the Ullswater steamer and afternoon tea or coffee in Grasmere before heading for home.

We return after summer for our next meeting on the 9th August.

Anyone is welcome to come along to our meetings to see what goes on, we always have a cup of tea and a biscuit after listening to the speaker and we close at 9p.m.
